The National Trust recently acquired the coastal farm at Trevose Head near Padstow and were keen to find out more about the local wildlife so we joined them and a couple of other enthusiasts to set Longworth traps. Although our hit rate was disappointingly low we did pick up a water shrew (very exciting), a wood mouse and a field vole. More (lots more) wood mice were found in the barns. As a comparison we also examined locally collected barn owl pellets and found wood mice, bank and field vole and common, pygmy and water shrew remains. Owls are better at surveys!
