Mammal MAPPER app

Wildlife records are incredibly important in order to assess the current state of species. However to fully understand the distribution and population fluctuations of different species, population density needs to be estimated.

The Mammal Society has therefore recently launched a new app:Mammal Mapper (available for iPhone and Android), the sister app to their already successful Mammal Tracker app. Instead of reporting ad-hoc sightings, Mammal Mapper attempts to calculate the density of sightings by measuring the distance and time travelled on a walk or cycle route.

All terrestrial mammals can be recorded (except for bat species) and field signs such as mole hills or faeces.
