For the fifth year running, CMG will be taking part in the National Harvest Mouse Survey. Information about upcoming survey dates and locations will be sent around to the mailing list.

The first pine marten seen in Cornwall for many years popped up on a trail camera in Morwenstow in 2015, and since then, there has been a steady trickle of reports. But up in Devon and Somerset, 34 pine marten have been released in the last two years.
Daniel Brown of Devon Wildlife Trust will be discussing the pine marten, a beautiful member of the weasel family, and the hows and whys of reintroduction.

Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Biological Recorders Conference
Chapel Lecture Theatre, Penryn Campus
Join us for the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Biological Recorders Conference 2026, exploring the theme Nature in the Dark.
This year’s conference will explore nocturnal species, the affects of light pollution, novel survey techniques and much more through a series of fascinating talks.
The afternoon and evening will include talks, short presentations and discussion, with an evening meal provided for in-person attendees.
There will also be “after dark” workshops, including a bat walk, moth trapping, and demonstrations of night-time survey equipment, giving you the chance to try out different recording methods.
The conference is suitable for both experienced recorders and those new to recording wildlife.

Hugh Warwick, ecologist, author and hedgehog expert, will be tackling the thorny problems faced by conservationists, ecologists, land owners and animal lovers around the world: how to tackle the major threat to biodiversity posed by invasive species.
Are we justified in killing one animal to protect another? How do we prioritise species, and how can openness help us develop a more compassionate approach to conservation.
