
Small mammals at Walmsley
Following an invitation from Cornwall Birdwatching and Preservation Society and some very successful otter surveys we were privileged to be able to access Walmsley Sanctuary which is normally closed to public access beyond the hides. Eight of us placed and collected Longworth traps around the site and recorded field and bank voles (strangely no mice…) along with rabbit, badger, mole and field vole signs and of course otter spraint collected for the CCOP. Cake-based adventures at Philip and Faith Hambly’s small holding near Looe. Amazing wild flowers and lakes, incredible insect life, a real treat to wander around in our small group with Philip as our guide. Somewhat distracted by the beauty of the place but twenty of us collected records of deer, otter and rabbits (oh, and cake).
