
More harvest mouse survey training!
Pete Cooper introduced a dozen enthusiastic harvest mouse surveyors (including 3 students from Newquay) to the art of harvest mouse nest searches. We headed out into the first field where nests were found in the brambley field margins, ably assisted by some very inquisitive horses. Moving on to a larger and un-grazed field we found three more nests along with plenty of evidence of field vole. Now we have 20 or so experienced surveyors who will head out in search of nests this

Devon Harvest Mouse Officer Sarah Butcher led 7 members around the South West Lakes Trust site of Tamar Lakes. After a demonstration of what abandoned harvest nest looks like and how to find them the team set off in search of nests around the reservoirs. 3 nests were found, showing that these tiny rodents are still around. Attendees also had a chance to meet Pop and Corn, Sarah’s teaching mice!
