2022 - More harvest mouse surveys
Continuing for our second season a bunch of hardy volunteers have been out across Cornwall looking for evidence of the diminutive harvest mouse. Searching for abandoned nests in long grass and scrub we are building our understanding of where this tiny rodent occurs in Cornwall and what sort of habitats are suitable.
Members have been out supporting the National Otter Survey this year. The survey has been delayed by the Covid situation but several CMG members went out with ecologist Hilary Marshall to learn the ropes at the professionally surveyed sites and then we headed out to cover the west Penwith areas. It will be interesting to see how the results compare with the previous 5 National Surveys dating back to the late 1970s.
