Shrews with Dr Dina Dechmann

On Wednesday 10th January Cornwall and Devon Mammal Groups ran an online talk on shrews, prepared by German shrew expert Dr Dina Dechmann, it was delivered by Lara Keicher and covered the incredible shrinking shrew – a strategy known as  Dehnel’s Phenomenon where animals lose bone and muscle massm, as well as areas of the brain that aren’t being used in order to reduce energy requirements in the winter – and then grow them back in the spring. Fifty two tickets were sold and the talk was recorded by Devon Mammal Group for anyone who missed it.
