Gullacombe Farm Walk

On a dry but overcast Sunday morning, we ventured out to Gullacombe farm to check traps set the night before. Coppiced hazel yielded a wood mouse, as did the woodland bank side. Those in a bramble thicket by a new pond we found a bank vole and field voles nearby in the rush beds, as well as more field mice. The trail cameras set have a lot of potential for simple monitoring of several species and we will be looking at the best ways to use them in the future. Whilst clearing the traps we also noted red and roe deer slots and Tony Atkinson found plenty of field vole larders around the cocksfoot tussocks, so a very productive morning and we are looking forward to visiting Gullacombe again to explore the Inny valley side of the farm.
